Accountability & Activism: A new online community for civic strategies for water & sanitation

by | Jul 31, 2023 | News

We’re thrilled to announce that End Water Poverty, along with CIVICUS and Sanitation and Water for All (SWA), are launching a new online platform for activists, civil society and practitioners advocating for water and sanitation rights. This online community will be hosted on a secure virtual platform offering a space to collaborate, learn, exchange strategies and resources, and build enduring systems of solidarity.

In our General Assembly last year, CIVICUS, a global alliance of more than 9,000 members dedicated to strengthening citizen action in 175 different countries, highlighted the interplay between civic space and water rights claiming strategies. This was followed up by a membership exchange on 24 January 2023, which we hosted in conjunction with CIVICUS and SWA, which offered members of the three different coalitions the chance to meet and share their experiences in resisting repression, expanding civic spaces, and sharpening human-rights based advocacy and campaigns. This community of practice is a key recommendation from the exchange.

The massive success of these exchanges shows that our members are hungry for more exchange – and that’s what this online community is all about! We hope the platform will provide a useful space for activists and civil society across the world to build our networks and share civic space and water rights claiming resources, strategies, events, case studies and tools.

Join us for the virtual launch of this community of practice on 10 August 2023 at 14:30-15:30 BST!
