Governance
The Secretariat
End Water Poverty is coordinated by a two-person Secretariat that is hosted and funded by WaterAid. We are in the process of recruiting for a permanent global coordinator.

The Steering Committee
End Water Poverty’s Steering Committee provides strategic support and guidance to the Secretariat. The Steering Committee comprises regional representatives from the coalition’s four geographical constituencies (Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America) as well as an expert trade union representative and an additional expert member. As End Water Poverty’s host, WaterAid also holds a permanent position on the Steering Committee.
Regional representatives for Africa, Asia and Latin America are elected respectively from the African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (ANEW), Freshwater Action Network South Asia (FANSA), and a combination of Red Mexicana de Acción por el Agua (FANMex) and Freshwater Action Network Central America (FANCA). In the absence of a regional network, the Committee’s representative from Europe is voted for by national constituencies. The Steering Committee also engages additional members with valuable skillsets.
The Steering Committee’s responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership on legal, governance and funding issues.
- Reviewing and approving budgets, annual reports, campaign strategies and activities.
- Reporting to constituents before and after quarterly Steering Committee meetings, sharing constituents’ concerns and ideas.
The Steering Committee is led by a Chair, who is recruited by the Secretariat and Steering Committee. Click here to read the Steering Committee Terms of Reference in full.
