The WASH sector from across Africa unites!
The 6th Africa Water Week (AWW) will be held from Monday 18 July to Friday 22 July 2016, under the auspices of the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) in conjunction with the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission and supported by several partners. The conference will be hosted by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, represented by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation.
The first under the SDG era, the conference will explore the theme “Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation”.
The week will be divided into four themes and six priority objectives. The full programme is available online on the AMCOW website. It’s going to be an exciting week as we work to ensure that Africa achieves sustainable development, that water, sanitation and hygiene are central to all plans, and that we truly leave no one behind.
Civil Society Forum: Saturday 16 July 2016

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) will be key actors in shaping the implementation of goal 6. CSOs need to be at the centre of the debates within Africa Water Week, so as to engage with governments, share experiences and disseminate the learnings of the week. To this end African civil society organisations will come together to develop common messages and prepare strategies for the CSO networks to reinforce their voice and advocacy skills. The messages developed during the preparatory day will be CSOs narrative throughout AWW.
The African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation (ANEW) is delighted at this powerful opportunity to bring civil society from across the region together for united advocacy. Working with other lead co-convenors, including End Water Poverty (EWP), Sanitation and Water for All (SWA), WaterAid and WSSCC, with additional support by partners such as IRC, WaterSHED and SIMAVI. This Saturday 16 July, over 80 CSO representatives from across the region will gather to set our positions on how to achieve the new sustainable development goals, and work together to establish action plans. An incredible opportunity to ensure a better future for all!
